Conviction for bridal scam fraud

USA - A federal court has convicted a Pittsburgh woman who falsely claimed to be organising a wedding exhibition.

Karen Tucker, 47, claimed she was organising a bridal exhibition to be held at the Hynes Convention Centre in Boston in March 2010. Pretending to belong to a company called Boston 411, she falsely advertised the event as attracting thousands of visitors and collected money from exhibitors and advanced ticket sales. Most of the money collected was spent on personal expenses including rent, meals out and trips to Wal-Mart.

Convicted of aggravated identity theft and wire fraud, Tucker will be sentenced on 12 January and faces more than four years in prison.

The FBI began their investigation into Tucker’s activities earlier this year.
