Lyon goes after fledgling organisers

FRANCE - The Lyon Convention and Exhibitions Bureau has created an initiative for organisers wishing to bring new trade shows to the city.

The Expobooster initiative is aimed at new exhibition planners with less than three years of activity, who have “never dared to take an idea further”..

To qualify, a project must be innovative, show true growth potential, and relate to areas of local industrial excellence that will “generate interest on a national scale”.

Two projects each year will benefit from the initiative, which offers financial support and special discounts for room and space hire for three years.

The scheme is backed by local authorities including the partner venues Espace Tête d’Or (2400sqm); Double Mixte (10,000sqm); The Tony Garnier Halls (17,000sqm modular); the Lyon Convention Centre – Cité Internationale (25,000sqm) and Eurexpo (100,000sqm).

In October 2010, Eurexpo completed a 10,000sqm extension including a modular amphitheatre named after Paul Bocuse, able to hold from 1,000 to 2,400 people.
