Thai Expo centre open for business

THAILAND - Guiness Global Access has cut the tape at what it is calling Thailand's first privately-owned permanent exhibition centre, designed exclusively for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to develop international trade.

The 20,000sqm Gate Thai exhibition centre, located on Bangkok’s Teparak Road, hopes to attract at least one group of about 50 foreign buyers from one particular market each month.

Managing director Prayoon Damrongchietanon said he hopes the centre will become a 'match making' network for SMEs looking to meet foreign buyers and help them to export their products.

"We aim to generate income of about THB80m (US$2.7m) in the first year from renting space as well as from our consulting activities," said Prayoon. "We will also send direct mail to more than 40,000 foreign buyers listed on our database."

There are currently about 860 booths at the complex covering about 50 per cent of its total area.

"We are looking to attract buyers from markets in Asia and the Far East -as well as emerging markets in Africa and Eastern Europe," said Prayoon. "Our vision is also to promote Thailand's role as an international business service and information hub, as well as to enhance the country's standing as a partner in global business supporting free trade."
