Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre named Best Venue

AUSTRALIA - The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has been named the country’s Best Venue at the 2010 Australian Event Awards.

The SCEC ungraded interior design in its Convention Centre Parkside as part of a wider program of enhancements and has recently hosted 12,000 delegates at the 93rd International Lions Convention.

Held at the Aquatic Centre in Sydney Olympic Park, the awards ceremony also recognised the 21st annual Bluesfest Byron Bay music festival as Best Cultural or Arts Event and the 2010 Australian Event of the Year.

Best Event Export was won by David Atkins Enterprises for its work on the opening and closing ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, as well as the Opening Ceremony of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo.

“Major events in Australia are breeding opportunities for a new export industry in events, with Australian companies being sought after by major events around the world,” said former CEO of the Sydney Organising Committee for the 2000 Olympic Games, Sandy Hollway.
