Abu Dhabi to host offshoot of Comexposium's SIAL

UAE - French organiser Comexposium has joined forces with UAE-based organiser Turret Media to launch a Middle East version of its market leading Paris food industry event, SIAL.

Due to be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), 22-24 November, SIAL Middle East will be supported by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Unido Investment and Technology Promotion Office, and the UAE Ministry of Environment. The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has signed on as a strategic partner.

“The Gulf Cooperation Council is the biggest importer of food in the world, sourcing more than 90 per cent of its total needs,” said director-general of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Rashed Al Shariqi.

“The industry is in need of professional business platforms such as SIAL Middle East,” he adds.

Buyers from the region will be able to source from more than 1,000 brands shown by 300 exhibitors from 30 countries. The show will also feature national pavilions from Argentina, China, France, Hong Kong, Iran, Thailand, Turkey and the US.

A series of related events will be held alongside the show including the inaugural Middle East Food Summit and Retail Forum.

The five-day Paris version was first held in October 1964 and then biennially at Parc des Expositions de Paris Nord Villepinte Paris and attracted more than 9,300 exhibitors and over 216,000 visitors from 200 countries this year.
