DMG World Media Surf Expo to stick with mapping service

USA - Event organiser DMG is to keep an interactive mapping solution at January’s Surf Expo which allows visitors to be aware of all exhibitors on the show floor.

Last January, show director Roy Turner noticed that the visitors weren’t circulating around all 1,600 exhibitor stands, particularly the smaller ones. Turner hoped a mapping service would correct that problem and introduced it at the bi-annual exhibition’s September edition.

“We turned the service into a pre-show mobile application that had an in-built map of the show, so visitors could view all the exhibitors and their positions,” said Turner. “Also, it makes us a little more ‘green’, moving us away from printed information.”

Turner also made sure to boost the hall’s WiFi signal to enable full coverage: “We did a full hall buyout of wireless Internet, and we boosted the signal to cater for all network customers. We didn’t just buy the basic service and sit on it,” he added.

Pre-show, 5,500 unique IP addresses accessed the mobile map, accounting for 46,000 page views. During the show, the application logged 1,400 unique IPs and 16,000 page views. At the show, touch screens recorded a further 105,000 searches.

Surf Expo will take place on 6 to 8 January 2011 in Orlando, Florida.
