Comic-Con to stay in San Diego

USA – Comic Con International has announced its intention to stay in San Diego for the foreseeable future.

Limitation on visitor numbers at the San Diego Convention Centre (SDCC) has kept the show from growing beyond 125,000 people per year since 2007, prompting the organiser to consider moving the show to Anaheim, Las Vegas or Los Angeles after the original SDCC lease expired. However, the new decision will allow the event to take place in San Diego until 2015. The contract includes fixed rates for nearby hotels, and comes after plans were announced to expand the venue.

Comic-Con’s director of marketing and public relations, David Glanzer, said: “We are grateful for the tireless efforts all three cities put into their proposals. In the end, we feel this decision is the best for all those who attend Comic-Con and for the organisation itself. We are happy that the community has worked with us to ensure that we remain here.”
