BCEC secures 24 events for new expansion

AUSTRALIA - The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre’s management, AEG Ogden, has confirmed 24 events, worth AUD$40m (US$37m) in economic impact, for its convention space expansion, BCEC on Grey Street, due for completion in mid 2011.

A further nine conventions have chosen the new facilities, which have been designed for small- to medium-sized meetings for up to 600 delegates, for some of their conference events.

Among the first conventions to use the new space when it opens in 2011 are the Oceania Tobacco Control Conference 2011, SSEE International Conference (Society for Sustainability and Environmental Engineering) 2011 and 2011 Joint Conference for Learning Difficulties.

BCEC GM Bob O’Keeffe tells CMW it has seen increasing interest from internationals looking for smaller meeting space. “The centre’s international sales team, supported by our representative in Europe, Mary Jane Wiedemann, has targeted its sales strategy to grow the centre’s international association-based business in Europe for BCEC on Grey Street.”

The expansion will offer an additional 20 meeting rooms and event spaces including two tiered auditoria and a 52 per cent increase in convention space.
