Green training shoots for new meetings standards to grow

CANADA - Meeting planners and suppliers are invited to a training session to prepare for the release of new green standards.

The session will take place in Vancouver on 24 July, just prior to MPI’s International World Education Conference.

Participants will be introduced to the green standards put forward by North American industry association Convention Industry Council’s Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX).

Along with standards body ASTM International, CIC plans to launch six of the nine Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards in September.

Delegates will learn how to apply the standards to the request for proposal (RFP) process, how to pick environmentally sound suppliers, and how to measure the ‘greenness’ of their meetings in several categories.

The 24 July session, meant as the first of many, is organised by the Green Meeting Industry Council.

Endorsed by the CIC, completion of the workshop will give participants six hours of continuing education units counting towards credit for future certification.
