Indonesia targets GIBTM visitors for overseas events

GIBTM NEWS – Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture is revitalising its drive for international events with a return to the Abu Dhabi for GIBTM 2010.

Indonesia is extending its Visit Indonesia promotion for a third year to coincide with the launch of direct flights between the southeast Asian republic and Europe.

“Indonesia experienced its best ever year for overseas tourism arrivals in 2009 with 6.5 million visitors. In 2010 we are targeting a total of seven million visitors spending an average of US$1,000 per stay, contributing US$7bn to Indonesia’s economy,” said Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik.

Indonesia’s key exhibition space is in the capital, Jakarta, home to the Jakarta International Exhibition Centre with five exhibition halls totalling 40,000sqm, and the Jakarta Convention Centre with two exhibition halls and 13 meeting rooms totalling 31,600sqm.

From 1 June 2010, Indonesia's national carrier, Garuda Indonesia, will once again offer a daily long-haul service from Jakarta to Dubai and on to Amsterdam, featuring Garuda Indonesia's new 'Nature's Wing' livery and signature interior.
