Hamburg Messe und Congress has announced it is discontinuing its imaging festival PHOTOPIA Hamburg. A statement from the organiser said that amid the current challenging market environment, there was no economically feasible way to implement the event.
“It is our ambition to offer attractive, high-quality events. In the case of PHOTOPIA, we do not see a promising economic perspective even in the medium term,” said Heiko M. Stutzinger, CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress.
PHOTOPIA debuted in 2021, aiming to become an inspiring festival for the imaging community. However, it seems the costs involved are too high for the organisers to continue. “After contemplating all options very carefully, we arrived at the decision to take the event out of our portfolio,” said Stutzinger.
The messe added that it had made the announcement in order to give everyone involved the greatest possible planning security at an early stage.
“We very much regret that PHOTOPIA Hamburg, in which we, our exhibitors and partners have invested a great deal of energy, work and passion, cannot be continued in the future.
“We will of course refund any tickets purchased for PHOTOPIA 2024,” a statement on the show’s website said.
PHOTOPIA attracted 125 exhibiting companies from 15 countries to its 2023 edition. The 2024 show had been scheduled to run 10-13 October before the cancellation was announced.
