GED 2022 global snapshot

As the exhibition industry gears up for the Global Exhibition Day, 1 June 2022, (GED 2022) EW takes a look at some of the industry activity around the world to celebrate the event.

Asia

In India, Informa Markets is set to inaugurate two of its key shows, INMEX SMM (for the maritime and shipping sector) and PharmaLytica (for the pharma industry) in the in-person format, on GED 2022.

Yogesh Mudras, managing director of Informa Markets in India, said: “Observing GED is our responsibility and joy as the Indian exhibition industry continues to phase out from the adverse effects of the pandemic. We are aligning with our industry’s never-say spirit by organising two of our shows, INMEX SMM and PharmaLytica in the face-to-face format on 1 June.

“We have a keen pulse on the Indian market and the surveys reveal that as many as 81% of professionals wholly believe in the power of face-to-face exhibitions.”

Africa

The Association of African Exhibition Organisers (AAEO) is acknowledging GED 2022 by encouraging industry leaders to post insights about the value of exhibitions in accelerating the pace of economic recovery. The initiative is called ‘Voices of the Exhibition Industry’.

On one of the twitter posts shared by the AAEO, Didi Okoro, head of sales for the South African based consumer exhibition, the Rand Show, said: “The trust you build with a client through eye contact and body language at a face-to-face exhibition is irreplaceable. The passion in your body language and sparkle in your eye is all part of the sell. Face to face exhibitions are irreplaceable.”

Europe

The Italian Exhibition and Trade Fair Association is set to host The Italian Exhibition & Made in Italy event at the Centro Congressi Fontana di Trevi in Rome in the backdrop of GED 2022.

The event will bring together important institutional figures who will analyse the economic impact of the sector on the Italian economy. A fundamental theme of the day will be celebrating Italian exhibitions and their wider global significance.

Additionally, the UK-based exhibition technology company, ExpoPlatform are offering five free ebooks about the Future of Events, in celebration of GED 2022.

Americas

In Washington DC hundreds of exhibition professionals will celebrate GED 2022 at the Exhibition and Convention Executive Forum (ECEF) at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Professionals from across the country will meet face to face to network and discuss the industry’s most pressing issues, while celebrating the impact of the exhibitions on the global economy.

Danica Tormohlen, publisher and editor-in-chief at the Society of Independent Show Organisers (SISO), confirmed on Twitter: “I'll be celebrating #GED2022 with hundreds of #eventprofs at #ECEF on 1 June.”

Australasia

In Melbourne, GED 2022 activities had to be scaled back. The Exhibition and Events Association of Australia (EEAA) in an address from its CEO Domenic Genua to members, 27 April, said it would be scaling back its previously proposed full day of activities GED citing the need to spend time on the business of the day, with planning and staffing issues pressing as business resurgence gathers pace.

Despite the recovery process causing a reduction in activities, Genua stated: "We will still be gathering, however now in Sydney, and rather than having an event spanning the whole day, which none of us can afford at this point in time, we will be having a constructive, interactive and busy breakfast session."
