The Events Industry Council has announced a new sustainable initiative, the Centre for Sustainable Events, during a press conference at IMEX America.
The Events Industry Council is a collection of senior figures in the events industry, including partners at IMEX, Freeman, MGM and more.
Its new Centre will be both a physical space and a digital platform, which will provide information and advice to event planners about how to make their events more sustainable.
It was announced during a press conference featuring EIC Chair Tina Wehmeir, EIC CEO Amy Calvert, IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer, Yalmaz Siddiqui, Vice President of Corporate Sustainability at MGM Resorts International, and Miguel Naranjo of the United Nations.
Calvert said: "Climate change is omnipresent. Rather than being overwhelmed by the problem, we need to take each step one at a time. We will be offering research, demonstrating sustainable standards and practice."
IMEX Ceo Carina Bauer commented: "Our sustainable programme is built upon 16 years of learning. 93% of our waste is diverted from landfill here in Vegas, almost at the 100% we have achieved in Frankfurt.
"Events need to reflect shifting values in society and business. EIC can provide a platform for the industry to work together and achieve sustainability on a global scale.
