EW catches up with FIExpo’s Sergio Baritussio ahead of the event.

How has the show evolved over the past few years?

At our ninth edition, the third in Lima, Peru, we have been growing around 30 per cent every year, and are the most important exhibition of the meeting industry in the Latin American and Caribbean region. We are now an ICCA Supported Show, and are an ICCA Regional Association Partner Latin America, a position that has only one show in each continent.

How has the region evolved for the exhibition industry?

The economic stability in the region, at least until last year, was very important. Also most countries don’t have security problems so we’re very safe for exhibitors and participants coming to this region.

What challenges are the industry and the show facing?

We are trying to incorporate more destinations and hosted buyers. A Technology Villa and the Latin American Politician Forum is increasing the amount of ministers and authorities from almost all countries in the continent.

What will be the biggest changes in the exhibition industry?

Face-to-face meetings will always have an important place in business. We are investing a lot in social events where countries can make presentations and exhibitors and hosted buyers could have a new place for networking.
