Organiser UBM Asia has promoted Margaret Ma to the role of company vice president and board member.
Ma joined UBM Asia in 2009 as managing director of its start-up subsidiary UBM China. Under her leadership, the Shanghai-based business is expected to generate US$65m (£41.5m) in 2015.
UBM Asia president and chief executive Jimé Essink said: “I am very pleased to invite Margaret to join the UBM Asia board. Margaret will bring among others valuable experience about mainland China as well as deep insight in technology to the board.”
Ma recently took on management of the eMedia Asia, which includes China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE) in Shenzhen, IIC China and the print and online titles of EE Times Asia, EDN China and ESM China.
UBM Asia announced the purchase of Global Sources’ majority stake (60.1 per cent) in eMedia Asia this week (1 July) for cash consideration worth approximately US$9m.
Officials said Ma sourced one of UBM Asia’s most successful acquisitions in the past 15 years, the Shanghai International Children Baby Maternity Industry Expo (CBME China), which has grown to include geoadapts in Turkey, India and Singapore. The show’s 2015 edition, to be held on 22-24 July, will span more than 100,000sqm at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
Ma has also overseen the acquisition of shows including Dentech China and Medtec China, as well as the growth of events in aviation, non-woven and technology sectors.
Prior to joining UBM, Ma held senior roles at TNT and Global Sources. She graduated with an MBA degree from Oxford Brooks Business School and holds certifications in project management, information system management and web development.
Ma will continue to be based in Shanghai and there will be no change to her immediate responsibilities and reporting line.
