AMERICAS – From high fashion to woodworking, trade shows will be a major drawcard for Las Vegas this summer, bringing more than 250,000 visitors to the city, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).

The authority predicts Las Vegas will receive a US$207m boost from eight large-scale exhibitions and conventions to be staged between late June and August 2015.

The events are expected to attract at least 10,000 visitors each and include the Cosmoprof North America trade show, SuperZoo West, Association of Woodworking and Furnishing Suppliers Fair, ASD MARKETWeek, OFFPRICE Specialists Show and MAGIC Marketplace.

“The incredible diversity of groups that visit during the summer months really showcases Las Vegas’ broad appeal as a group business destination,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and chief executive of the LVCVA.

“Summer was once considered one of the slower periods in Las Vegas. Now these months are filled with a wide variety of special events and conventions that attract visitors and stimulate the economy,” Ralenkotter said.

Sporting events will also be a highlight with the city hosting trade shows for bowling, table tennis, basketball and roller derby enthusiasts, as well as the NHL Awards, UFC Fight Week, NBA Summer League and USA Basketball Showcase.

Officials said the Southern Nevada’s $7.4bn meetings and convention industry hosted more than 4,000 meetings, conventions and trade shows during 2014, supporting more than 54,000 jobs.
