UBM posts strong start with inaugural Kolkata jewellery show

ASIA - The Indian arm of UBM has claimed its inaugural Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair 2014 (KJGF) attracted more than 6,000 visitors and 160 exhibitors.

The “B2B jewellery mega trade fair” was held on 11-13 January at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex, Kolkata and was the first ever initiative of its kind in the city and state, said the organiser.

“We are extremely happy with the response generated in the industry as a result of our first edition of Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair 2014,” said UBM India managing director Joji George. "The event, as a platform to drive business, has surely set a precedent amongst the gem and jewellery trade fraternity in the region, to look forward to and to participate, in the coming years.”

UBM said a unique feature of the launch edition of the KJGF was the The Golden Hand Award, sponsored by MP Jewellers. This initiative honoured the unspoken heroes of the jewellery trade - the traditional ‘kaarigars’ - "who painstakingly create beautiful pieces through their craftsmanship".

The fair was represented by jewellery manufacturers from India as well as international participants, showcasing intricate modern and traditional jewellery designs through plain and studded gold jewellery, loose diamonds and stones, gifting articles and machinery equipment.

The second edition of KJGF will return to the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex on 10-12 January 2015.

UBM India further expanded its jewellery portfolio with the launch of I Love Jewellery in Chennai in 2013.
