HKTDC autumn fairs bring HK$1.4bn to Hong Kong

ASIA - The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has reported a five per cent growth in visitor and exhibitor attendance at its trade fairs this autumn.

More than 200,000 visitors and 8,700 exhibitors took part in eight events in October and to date in November, bringing an estimated HK$1.4 bn (US$0.18 bn) to Hong Kong, not including trade orders.

The eight fairs were: Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) which attracted 29,000 visitors, Hong Kong Optical Fair, and the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair, which were held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre; Eco Expo Asia, Sports Source Asia and the Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair, held at AsiaWorld-Expo.

In addition, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and ElectronicAsia attracted a combined total of 100,000 visitors.

“According to our statistics, each business traveller spent an average of HK$11,000 during their stay,” said HKTDC deputy executive director
Benjamin Chau. “Based on this figure, the total amount spent by overseas buyers and exhibitors during the fairs could amount to more than HK$1.4 billion, not including earnings from trade orders and related business services."

Mr Chau said that buyers from emerging markets such as Brazil, the Chinese mainland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland and Ukraine recorded double-digit growth; and attendance from traditional markets Australasia, France, Japan and Korea each rose at least four per cent.

HKTDC recently won the 2013 Best Marketing Activity of the Year award from UFI
