Claude Membrez elected as European Major Exhibition Centres Association VP

EUROPE - The European Major Exhibition Centres Association (EMECA) has elected Claude Membrez as vice president of Infrastructure and Technical Affairs.

The chief executive officer of Geneva exhibition venue Palexpo succeeds Giovanni Mantovani, CEO of the VeronaFiere in his new role of managing the sustainable development policy of the member venues.

The association said this position is crucial as its members aim to offer exhibitors and visitors a ‘top level infrastructure and information network’, and deals with the impact of information technology on the congress and fair industry.

“Palexpo embraced sustainable development years ago, which imposed us to innovate in the technological field,” said Membrez. “We have designed original solutions, such as the construction of an exhibition hall over the highway to save building land or the opening of a solar power unit on site.”

EMECA president Andreas Gruchow said: “Palexpo Geneva is an important exhibition venue in Europe and has developed in an impressive way during the past years. We will work closely together and I am specifically looking forward to Claude Membrez’s valuable contribution in the field of technical issues of our venues.”

The EMECA General Assembly renewed its committee last week in Madrid by electing four new members. The EMECA committee now includes David Boon (Brussels EXPO), Ettore Riello (chairman VeronaFiere), Wolfgang Marzin (MesseFrankfurt) and Claude Membrez, all newly elected.

They join Maria Martinez (IFEMA Madrid), Andreas Gruchow, EMECA President (Deutsche Messe Hanover), Peter Ottmann (NürnbergMesse) and Enrico Pazzali (Fiera Milano).
