HKCEC attracts 5.2 million visitors during July 2012- June 2013

ASIA - The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has revealed a total of 1,180 events were held at the venue during the fiscal year July 2012 to June 2013.

According to Monica Lee-Müller, MD of HKCEC Management (HML), responsible for the venue management and daily operation, these numbers reaffirm the venue’s level of service delivery as world-class.

“We take pride in attracting event organisers from around the world to Hong Kong and providing quality services for the event attendees,” said Lee-Müller.

Of the 1,180 events, 115 exhibitions and 30 conferences were held during that year. Seven of the 115 exhibitions were first time events at the HKCEC, covering a wide range of industries including real estate, bakery, diving and resort, sports and interior design.

“The new exhibitions and conferences are certainly a welcome addition to HKCEC’s strong event and client portfolio. It proves that our commitment to enhancing HKCEC’s competitiveness by HML’s continuous investment in new technologies, new equipment, and new talent is recognised by event organisers.”

A total of 104 exhibitions were returning events, “continuing to be the backbone of the HKCEC’s exhibition portfolio”. In the reported year, 20 of the recurrent exhibitions recorded double-digit growth in terms of gross exhibition space compared with their previous editions.

These included HKTDC Food Expo, Hong Kong Book Fair, and Asia Adult Expo.

HKCEC also hosts corporate meetings, banquets and entertainment events. In total, 1,180 events held at the HKCEC in FY2012/13 attracted over 5.2 million visitors from around the world to the venue.

“The HML team is proud to have served 42,010 events and over 80 million buyers, exhibitors, visitors and guests over the past 25 years,” added Lee-Müller.

“These events have contributed significant economic benefits to Hong Kong by generating spin-offs for related industries, creating numerous jobs and business opportunities for small and medium enterprises, and enhancing Hong Kong’s international image and reputation.”
