Messe Munich prepares for Indian green tech expo

ASIA - Germany’s Messe Munich is expecting more than 6,000 visitors at its inaugural environmental technology fair for the Indian market in October.

The first IFAT India takes place across 6,000sqm of exhibition space at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) from 24 to 26 October 2013.

The organiser said IFAT India has already exceeded expectations in its international presence, with 56 per cent of the exhibitors coming from outside of India.

“Despite the downward correction in economic growth in India, interest in IFAT INDIA remains high,” said Gerhard Gerritzen, deputy managing director of Messe Munich. "We have easily surpassed the goal we set ourselves of 100 exhibitors. This shows that the Indian offshoot of IFAT in Munich is serving an important market."

According to The Times of India, 22 of India's 32 cities are facing significant water shortage, where in some cities the gap between supply and demand for groundwater is as high as 24 per cent.

Messe Munich already organises two established events for the sector: IFAT ENTSORGA in Munich, and IE expo in Shanghai, and wants Bombay’s edition to become India's leading trade fair for water, sewage, refuse and recycling.
