New Messe Nuremberg hall books events ahead of 2014 completion

EUROPE - The construction of Messe Nuremberg's newest exhibition hall, 3A, is well underway, already booking a number of new events ahead of its completion in February 2014.

“As of July 2013, 10 events, including many leading exhibitions, have already reserved 3A for 2014,” said CEO of the venue, Peter Ottmann. Besides international toy fair, Spielwarenmesse, the events confirmed include fensterbau/frontale, Interzoo, the PADDLEexpo, as well as the ConSozial congress and exhibition.

Designed by London-based Zaha Hadid Architects, the build of the hall’s shell has been completed, measuring 105 metres long and 85 metres wide, reaching heights of up to 20 metres.

“With the new hall 3A we impressively show that Nürnberg is an innovative and successful exhibition location,” said deputy chairman of the supervisory board of NürnbergMesse, Ulrich Maly. “Urban development and architecture have been the direct expression of our urban culture at all times. They are also evidence of the political and economic importance of the city.”

The new hall increases the display area of the exhibition and congress site by 9,000sqm to more than 170,000sqm. The venue group has confirmed the total cost amounts to about €37 million euros (US$49m).

Zaha Hadid Architects also recently designed the New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China, claimed to be the world's largest freestanding building.
