AUSTRALASIA - AEG Ogden executive Malu Barrios has been appointed to the role of general manager at the interim Glebe Island exhibition centre in Sydney, following the firm’s recent contract win to operate the new facility.
Barrios has overseen the opening and ongoing success of the AEG Ogden-managed Darwin Convention Centre. Five years prior to this, Barrios was general manager of Sydney Showground and spent six years as events director at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, also operated by AEG Ogden.
The interim Glebe Island Expo is required to support the exhibition and events industry while the new facilities are built at Darling Harbour, due for completion in December 2016.
AEG Ogden’s director of convention centres, Geoff Donaghy, has been appointed CEO of ICC Sydney, as well as the first Asia Pacific-region president of the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC).
