International Association of Congress Centres appoints first Asia-Pacific president

WORLD - The International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) has appointed Geoff Donaghy as the new president, becoming the first Asia Pacific-region representative to be elected.

Brussels-based AIPC comprises more than 170 of the world’s leading facilities across 55 countries with a network of 900 active senior management level executives.

Donaghy has been a board member of the industry association for professional convention and exhibition centre managers world wide for eight years, and vice president for six. Currently a senior executive for AEG Ogden, the group is responsible for the management of venues, including a network of arenas and stadiums, convention and exhibition centres in the Asia Pacific region.

He succeeds outgoing president Edgar Hirt from Hamburg, Germany, and will also take on the CEO position of the new US$1 billion International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney project at Darling Harbour, which starts construction in December this year.

"We are now able to further advance the important role convention centers play in economic, academic and professional development while expanding on education, training and networking programs for our members," said Donaghy.
