Reed loses second outdoor show over weapons ban

AMERICAS - The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has decided to drop Reed Exhibitions as promoter of its Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Less than a month after the National Rifle Association (NRA) launched the Great American Outdoor show replacing Reed’s Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, the foundation has said it will no longer work with Reed.

In a NSSF statement, the association said that Reed's "decision to restrict the sale of certain types of firearms this year at its consumer hunting and fishing show — an event unrelated to NSSF and the SHOT Show — was in conflict with NSSF's mission to serve the shooting sports industry.” As a result, the foundation said the two organisations decided it would be in the best interest for the SHOT show to end its relationship.

Earlier this year, Reed cancelled its Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show (ESS) after it became the subject of heated discussion over the decision to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines in an effort to avoid negative media coverage.

The NSSF said it is still looking for a new promoter for the SHOT Show.
