Alimentaria postponed due to competitor wine event

EUROPE - International food event Alimentaria 2014 has been postponed to avoid a clash with competitor Prowein in Dusseldorf.

The organiser has changed the event’s date so that its wine and spirits show Intervin doesn't compete with international trade fair Prowein.

"Intervin is visited by buyers from around the world… overlapping with other international events would be detrimental to the sector, which the trade fair ultimately aims to serve," said Alimentaria director J Antoni Valls.

The new show dates are set to be 31 March to 3 April 2014, from the original slot of 24-27 March.

Launched in 1976, Alimentaria is held at Fira de Barcelona and organised by Alimentaria Exhibitions, a joint venture between Fira de Barcelona and Reed Exhibitions.

Last year, the show overcame a strike and reduced show length to increase attendance. Following this, Alimentaria and Reed launched a new event in Brazil.
