Messe Munich reports record Bauma event

EUROPE - Messe Munich has hailed its recent Bauma exhibition a success, breaking visitor records, despite exhibitors’ concerns with the international market.

The organiser claimed more than 530,000 visitors from 200 countries attended the international trade fair for construction machinery and equipment, on 15-21 April at the Munich Trade Fair Centre.

Messe Munich chairman and CEO Klaus Dittrich said that 200,000 visitors came from outside Germany, the greatest number of international visitors in Bauma’s history. However, manufacturers were pinning their hopes on regions outside Europe, including South America, India and Australasia, which had fewer visitors at the show.

Alexandre Saubot, COO of Haulotte Group, blamed the decline in the international market on an uncertain economy in Europe, where customers are hesitant to purchase large volumes of equipment, instead opting to buy piece-by-piece.

Despite the concerns, the organiser reported that after preparing for a bigger Bauma, the show also broke exhibitor and exhibition space records. More than 3,400 companies from 57 exhibitors showcased their latest products in a record exhibition space of 570,000sqm.
