Record sales reported at Malaysian furniture show

ASIA - The Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) has posted record sales of US$854m, a three per cent increase from last year, organiser UBM has claimed.

The ‘biggest furniture fair outside China’ was held earlier this month, at the Putra World Trade Centre and Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre, attracting 18,397 trade visitors, including 6,054 international buyers from 140 countries.

"We are delighted at the sales record because MIFF has delivered yet again despite the global economic uncertainties,” said MIFF’s chairman Tan Chin Huat.

Huat believes this will boost the show’s 20th anniversary next year as 70 per cent of the exhibitors have already confirmed participation for the 2014 edition, scheduled on 4-8 March.

MIFF 2013 will be followed by another buying opportunity for global retailers in September when UBM launches SEAFIE, on 13-16 September in Kuala Lumpur.
