Indian authority considers expansion in Hyderabad

ASIA – The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is considering the development of facilities on land near the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) and Hyderabad International Trade and Expositions.

According to The Times Of India, international events could be located at a 34-acre (137,600sqm) plot of land, divided into parcels of 15.48 acres, 8.20 acres and 9.23 acres, at the National Academy of Construction (NAC) and surrounding areas under public private partnership (PPP) basis.

The development, near Madhapur, will be potentially followed by development at land located between Hi-Tec City's MMTS railway station and a proposed metro rail station near Shilparamam.

"Hyderabad, especially the HITEX area, has become a strategic location for Asia and Gulf regions for conducting international events,” a senior official of HMDA told the newspaper. “The recently held convention on biological diversity helped in promoting Hyderabad as a MICE destination.”

The state government has already established a convention visitors' bureau in Hyderabad to help promote the development of the city’s MICE credentials.
