ASIA - Bangkok–based convention and exhibition centre Impact Muang Thong Thani has adopted international standardisation for security, food safety and energy in a bid to be ranked among Asia's top five exhibition and convention venues.
Pauk Kanjanapas, Managing Director of Impact Exhibition Management Company, claims Impact has become Thailand's first convention venue to be certified TIS22300 (MICE Security Management System for Meeting Incentive Convention and Exhibition); ISO22300 (Food Safety Management); and ISO50001 (Energy Management System).
"These achievements enhance Impact's confidence and create trust with our business partners," says Kanjanapas. "We believe that our commitment to development and measures to keep up with the international standard will enable us to host over 800 events a year and be ranked among the top five of Asian exhibition and convention venues."
Impact has been certified TIS22300 since 2009. Since then the centre has been implementing measurements, deploying manpower and installing equipment such as over 500 closed-circuit televisions to cover its exhibition areas, entrances and parking spaces. It has also applied thermo-scan devices to monitor influenza.
In terms of sustainability and energy consumption, Impact has conducted energy saving campaigns to create staff awareness and established a committee to monitor energy consumption and related activities. Impact uses energy saving light bulbs and controls and has recently reduced its energy consumption and saved Bt13m (US$437,000). The centre was awarded ISO50001 certification in 2011.
Impact claims it is the first MICE venue to have achieved the ISO223000 certification following an investment of over Bt30m in its kitchen equipment. The centre has also been training kitchen staff and food and beverage employees to ensure food safety.
Impact Muang Thong Thani recently launched its Event Calendar Application on Android and expects to see a total of 200,000 users from two major Smartphone platforms by the end of 2013.
