Reed subsidiary partners for Indonesian maritime event

ASIA - Reed Panorama Exhibition (RPE) has partnered with the Indonesian government for a biannual maritime event in Jakarta.

Indonesia Maritime Expo 2013, which was conceived to serve the maritime industry in Indonesia and the surrounding region, is a sister event of Asia Pacific Maritime and Kormarine which are both organised by Reed Exhibitions.

The event is now in its fourth edition, but 2013 will be the first time the event has been run by RPE; a joint venture between Reed Singapore and Indonesian organiser the Panorama Group.

It will be supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Transportation, as well as the Indonesian Coating Association and the Indonesian Ship Owner Association (INSA).

General manager of RPE, Clive Phillips, is optimistic the exhibition will attract local and international maritime industry professionals keen to explore the latest developments.

“We are excited to make IME 2013 the premier maritime event in Indonesia, with our goal of promoting the Indonesian maritime industry to the world and Indonesia’s ship builders to a regional business platform for those who wish to expand their businesses in Indonesia and beyond,” he said.

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world with 17,480 islands. As a result, sea transportation plays an important role in both its economic development and national defence. The country’s maritime industry growth was 6.3 per cent year-on-year for the first quarter of 2012, and is expected to rise to 6.4 per cent in 2013.

According to INSA chairman Carmelita Hartoto, there is an increase of up to 1,000 units in the number of Indonesian ships built each year.

“INSA has given a high appreciation for the organisation of Indonesia Maritime Expo 2013,” said Hartoto. “This is a biannual event that will encourage our efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation between all stakeholders simultaneously and measure our strength in competing in the global marketplace. We expect this activity to continue and to be held every consecutive year.”

The exhibition will be held from 5 to 7 September 2013 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
