ITB Asia to expand floor plan at Suntec in 2013

ASIA - The organiser of Asian travel industry show ITB Asia is expanding the show to take up two floors of exhibition space when it returns to Suntec Singapore next year.

The trade fair, which is organised by Messe Berlin (Singapore) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, will be held at the upgraded Suntec Singapore Convention Centre from 23 to 25 October 2013 and will take up levels four and six.

The fifth edition of the Asian travel market show took place at the Sands Expo and Convention Center at Marina Bay Sands from 17 to 19 October and attracted nearly 8,500 attendees, a 12 per cent year-on-year increase. Visitors represented 92 countries and covered destinations, airlines, hotels, tourism operators, venues and travel technology companies.

“This was a really exciting year for us in many aspects,” Messe Berlin (Singapore) vice-president Dr Martin Buck said. Floor space was also up by about 15 per cent compared with 2011.

“ITB celebrated its fifth anniversary in Singapore, we were at a new venue which gave the exhibition floor a fresh new look and feel. We also saw double-digit growth in all aspects of the show.”

Highlights included the new Future Leaders initiative, aimed at attracting and grooming talent in the travel industry, along with four additional conferences covering luxury hospitality and retail, new developments in the Chinese corporate travel market, travel buyer and supplier collaboration and the cruise industry.

“Suntec has given us the flexibility to expand the second trade show floor next year depending on demand for space,” ITB Asia executive director Nino Gruettke said.

“Our space is to grow ITB Asia year-on-year not just in terms of floor space but also in delivering high quality, relevant content that will be beneficial to delegates.”
