Pyongyang trade fair opens with strong Chinese field

ASIA - The Pyongyang Autumn International Trade Fair is underway in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), featuring more than 200 companies.

Companies from 12 countries are taking part in the eighth edition of the event, which opened in the capital on Monday, with China represented by 126 exhibitors.

“The annual trade fair plays a positive role in expanding economic relations among countries through joint ventures, investment and science and technology exchanges,” commented O Il Hun, vice director of the Korean International Exhibition Corporation, in the opening ceremony.

The DPRK’s vice foreign trade minister So Kil Bok said that through events such as the Pyongyang Autumn International Trade Fair, the country is boosting all forms of economic cooperation with other countries based on equality and mutual benefits.

The show, which runs until 27 September, focuses on machines, electronics, clothing and vehicles.

South Korea last month ran a new event aimed at helping companies and individuals prepare for an ageing society.
