Survey shows positive reaction to AIBTM Chicago move

AMERICAS - Following the 2012 Americas Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings exhibition (AIBTM), its organiser Reed Travel Exhibitions conducted an independent survey among 6,000 buyers and suppliers within the IBTM Global Events Portfolio database to identify trends for the US as a destination for a trade show in the meetings and events marketplace.

When asked to consider the most important criteria for exhibitors to to attend an event, the majority said that quality of buyers and the reputation of the event were the priority. Those surveyed on the trade visitor category confirmed that the subject matter of the trade show and the quality of exhibiting companies are the two most important reasons for attending a trade show.

The survey also revealed that 90 per cent of Hosted Buyers who attended AIBTM 2012 indicated they would return in 2013 to Chicago, while 93 per cent of attendees said they expected to place business as a result of their attendance.

"Our core brand values are based on our reputation in delivering quality Hosted Buyers and this remains key to our success," says portfolio director of IBTM Global Events at Reed Travel Exhibitions, Craig Moyes. "Equally to ensure there is total transparency, we also have our events independently audited so our stakeholders can see exactly how many Hosted Buyers attended rather than rely on the organiser claiming the numbers."

Additional post show research undertaken to find out the reactions to AIBTM2012 and the move of the event to Chicago identified that 80 per cent of trade buyers are likely to attend AIBTM 2013 and 92 per cent would recommend the event to a colleague. In terms of exhibitors, 88 per cent said they were likely to return when it quits Baltimore and moves to Chicago.
