Stuttgart awarded most sustainable city in Germany

EUROPE - Stuttgart is Germany's most sustainable city, according to the WirtschaftsWoche Sustainable City Indicator (WWSCI).

In the recent WWSCI survey, Stuttgart achieved higher than average results among Germany's 50 largest cities in every category (economic strength, human capital, social affairs, energy and transport, and transparency and commitment).

Many venues and hotels in Stuttgart hold sustainability certification, including the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart, the Kultur und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle, congress centres Filderhalle, Filharmonie and CC Stadtgarten, and the Parkhotel Stuttgart Messe Airport.

Numerous events in the region are organised on the theme of sustainability, some of which are in accordance with sustainability criteria, including C02 compensation. Stuttgart Airport is also committed to the protection of the environment.

In addition to being named the most sustainable city, within the framework of the 2012 City of Culture rankings published in August, the Hamburg Institute of International Economics, on behalf of Berenberg Bank, chose Stuttgart from among Germany's 30 largest metropolises as the Number One City of Culture. The award acknowledges the state capital's wide range of cultural options, including its art museums, music festivals and architectural buildings.
