Chinese cities announce events alliance at CIBTM

ASIA - Eight Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Kunming, Sanya and Xi’an, have joined together in a China MICE Cities Alliance.

The newalliance was launched at the CIBTM meetings industry tradeshow, which draws to a close today (14 September) at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing.

The alliance members say that the new organisation is a core strategic measure for promoting the development of China’s MICE industry and aims at establishing a premium brand market integration for MICE cities and focuses on “strengthening co-operation and sharing resources”.

Sun Weijia, Vice-Chairman of Beijing Municipal Tourism Development, said China’s MICE industry had improved in recent years and the country now ranked eighth in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings.

The cities, said Mr Sun, possessed unique expansion models and features. “Therefore, cities can exchange and share their experience through the alliance. More importantly, the alliance can forge a bridge among the MICE cities enabling them to facechallenges collectively and work together to enhance the attraction and influence of China’s MICE destinations through cross-regional co-operation,” he added.

Beijing City Government is on board with Reed Travel Exhibitions to continue the CIBTM partnership for another four years, with aims to grow the show by 10 per cent a year.
