Largest Automechanika opens in Germany

EUROPE – The largest ever Automechanika has opened in Germany, bolstered by an expanded exhibitor base that includes trucks and e-mobility.

The exhibition, managed and hosted by Messe Frankfurt, is dedicated to automotive tools, repair and maintenance. Today it takes place in 12 countries, making it one of the world's most successful events.

The 22nd edition is the largest to date in terms of area, exhibitors and visitors. It was opened on 11 September by the Prime Minister of the State of Hesse, Volker Bouffier, whose comments on the significant role played by the exhibition were echoed by Detlef Braun, member of the executive board for Messe Frankfurt.

“About 4,600 exhibitors from 78 countries are here to show their products, solutions, and innovations for what lies ahead for the industry,” said Braun (pictured). “As the global leading trade show for the automotive aftermarket, we’re completely booked this year, covering an area of 305,000sqm.”

The six-day exhibition is expected to welcome more than 150,000 visitors by the time doors close on 16 September.

This year sees the debut of a new area titled Truck Competence, opening the exhibition up to the commercial vehicles sector. This is likely to open further into the agricultural sector by the time the 2014 edition opens it doors, according to insiders.

E-mobility, the electric vehicles sector, is seen as one of the biggest growth areas year-on-year, a reflection on increasing investment in the global electric vehicle technology marketplace.
