UBM partners in Switzerland to improve SME effectiveness

EUROPE – International organiser UBM has signed a partnership agreement with The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises from emerging markets in developing countries.

The new partnership will achieve its goals in accordance with a performance mandate implemented by Switzerland’s OSEC, the centre of expertise for Swiss foreign trade. OSEC has been commissioned by the Swiss Government to provide the performance mandates of export, location and import promotion.

Both parties will work directly with companies that have completed the SIPPO programme to assist in the trade promotion process. The partnership will encourage sustainable economic growth thus improving the contribution of small and medium-sized enterprises from these emerging and transition markets in the global economy.

The new alliance is also a declaration by both UBM and SIPPO that they recognise the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) as part of their ongoing business models. The SIPPO programme helps small and medium-sized enterprises in developing and transition countries to enhance their skills and gain a foothold in the Swiss and European markets by providing a wide range of information, training  courses and matchmaking services.

"We are delighted to welcome SIPPO companies to our European food ingredients and health ingredients events,” said brand director for UBM's Food Portfolio, Natasha Berrow. “Our new partnership will provide a cost-effective platform for SMEs from emerging markets and markets in transition, to reach senior buyers from across Europe and the globe.

UBM will help the companies supported by SIPPO to gain long-term benefits by offering them the opportunity to exhibit at Health Ingredients Europe, Natural Ingredients and Nutrition and Wellness 2012, alongside a line-up of 600 companies from around the globe. Among other opportunites, the event will offer valuable networking and advertising opportunities for companies participating in the SIPPO pavilion to aid them in their movement into Europe.

Earlier this year, the Central European Fair Alliance (CEFA) announced it was targeting European Union committees in an effort to increase awareness of emerging exhibition platforms in underserved central European regions.
