Messe Nuremberg appoints new convention centre director

EUROPE - Messe Nuremberg has appointed Thorsten Böhm as the new director of the Nuremberg Convention Center.

Böhm succeeds Friedhelm Lenz, who is retiring after almost 30 years managing the centre.

"We are excited to have Thorsten Böhm, a real home-grown talent, take on the role," said managing director Roland Fleck.

Böhm has been a member of the event team at Nuremberg Convention Center for 12 years. As a senior advisor he was responsible for events such as ConSozial, touted as the largest congress and exhibition for the social market in the German-speaking world, and Kommunale, the leading German exhibition and congress for municipal requirements.

The Nuremberg Convention Center is one of the largest convention and congress centres in Germany and Europe, providing space for 14,000 people in three areas.

In 2011 the venue achieved a turnover of €13.2m (US$16.5m).

The first excavators have started work on the construction of Messe Nuremberg’s newest exhibition hall, due to open in 2014.
