ASIA - The Impact exhibition venue in Bangkok, Thailand, has reduced energy at its MICE operations for the second year running, saving more than US$320,000.
The exhibition management company claims to have saved more than THB10m [US$320,359] in electrical expenses for the first half of this year. Continuing this trend will save the company more than its initial target of THB13m and prove its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Executive director of Impact Exhibition Management Kunwadee Jintavorn, said this is the second year Impact has successfully implemented the ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems standard set by the Management System Certification Institute (Thailand).
The move has resulted in sustainable and good practices for the environment as well as economic benefits through cost savings. Since adopting the ISO 50001 standard, energy consumption at Impact Challenger (60,000sqm); Impact Exhibition Centre (47,000sqm) and Impact Arena (4,000sqm) has been reduced substantially.
“This action is to prove our commitment to our partners who include both domestic and international organizers who are concerned about energy consumption and the environment,” commented Ms Kunwadee.
One of the more successful results resulted from reducing the working hours of air-chiller machines. Impact operates 12 chillers to control the temperature within its main halls, usually switched on three hours in advance for each event each day. They are now reduced to two hours in advance for the second and following show-days.
In addition Impact has replaced traditional incandescent bulbs with over 500 energy-saving light bulbs and installed electric meters in order to monitor the electric use within its exhibition halls.
Impact Exhibition Management recently teamed up with Indian organiser Pixie Consulting Solutions for ISRMAX Asia 2012, a new exhibition on sugar, rice, maize and agriculture.
