UBM co-locates CPhI and food ingredients shows in Brazil

AMERICAS - UBM Live will co-locate its CPhI South America pharmaceutical trade show with Food Ingredients South America (FISA) as part of plans to expand its offering in the country.

The organiser also revealed next year’s CPhI South America will feature packaging event InnoPack, which launched at the European edition of CPhI in 2011 and has since expanded into China, Southeast Asia and Japan.

“CPhI’s worldwide brand is stronger now than it has ever been based upon one simple premise: Delivering equal value to the exhibitor and visitor,” UBM Live CPhI Pharma portfolio director Greg Kerwin said.

“We believe the new aspects of CPhI South America and the co-location of FISA continues that premise by delivering value on both sides of the equation.”

CPhI South America is currently running at the Transamerican Expo Centre in Sao Paulo from 21 to 23 August with 250 exhibitors and is expected to attract 4,000 buyers. It is scheduled to return with FISA at the Expo Centre Norte from 6 to 8 August 2013.

UBM Live claimed the Brazilian pharma market is the largest in Latin America and is forecast to achieve 20 per cent growth this year, reaching BRL$95.2bn (US$47.2bn) by 2016.

FISA has been running for 17 years and attracted 14,000 buyers and 350 exhibitors in 2011. It will take place at the Expo Centre Norte from 18 to 20 September. The organiser claimed Brazil was also one of the most dynamic markets for food products globally.

According to UBM, the two shows have a 10 per cent overlap in visitor data including buyers interested in nutraceuticals, probiotics, amino acids, functional health foods, vitamins and global sourcing.

“This powerful combination of events creates the most efficient, effective venue for ingredients buyers and suppliers to meet, make valuable business connections and identify opportunities to capitalise on growth in the region,” UBM Brazil MD Joris Van Wijk added.

Last month, UBM reported emerging markets helped deliver a strong first half, with event revenues of £233m (US$361.1m) to 30 June 2012.
