Paris to follow infrastructure upgrade with business incentives

EUROPE - Parisian exhibition service provider and promotional body Viparis claims work to expand and update the French capital’s venues will be followed by new business initiatives for visitors.

The French capital has been reinvigorating its international offering in recent months, with several projects drawing to a close before the end of the year. Le Palais des Congrès de Paris completes work on its interior reception areas this year, while exhibition venue Paris Nord Villepinte is also undergoing a modernisation programme, undertaking a new series of works on catering spaces and services signage.

Other ongoing projects include Paris expo venue Porte de Versailles, where new event space is being created for VIP events, available by autumn 2013.

“We are constantly working on modernising our venues, accessibility and quality of reception, in order to create the best environment to host challenging and successful events,” said Viparis CEO Renaud Hamaide.

“The modernisation of Porte de Versailles is also underway,” he added. “On July 2011, the Council of Paris announced its intention to launch an invitation to tender regarding the modernisation of the exhibition park. Viparis has taken note of this decision and shown interest in taking part in the tender.

“Conceiving the best project for Porte de Versailles is one of our main challenges in coming months.”

However, Hamaide explained that the new infrastructure can only be used to its full advantage if measures are put in place to ensure new business is drawn to the city.

“Paris needs to have the best infrastructure to face competition from other world capitals and attract the biggest events, which bring economic benefits for the whole of the Paris region.

“But another goal for us is developing new services and packaged solutions for organisers and exhibitors,” said Hamaide, recently announced as the 2014 president of international exhibition organiser association UFI.

“We are developing several tools to assist the launching of new shows and see them through their all-important early years.

“Supporting the creation of new exhibitions is a daily challenge in our line of business,” he added.
