UAE plays major role at Basra oil and gas fair

MIDDLE EAST - The UAE’s oil and gas industry will feature heavily at the third annual Basra Oil and Gas International Conference and Exhibition, according to its organisers.

The four-day event, officially supported by Iraq’s Ministry of Oil and organised by Expotim and Pyramids International, takes place on 6-9 December 2012, and oil and gas companies from the UAE are once again expected to capitalise on opportunities in Iraq.

The event is expected to attract more than 17,000 visitors to the Basra International Fair Ground.

UAE companies represent a significant portion of the event’s participants. Last year there was a 93 per cent increase in UAE exhibitors, with a 70 per cent increase anticipated for this year’s event.

Event director Nazli Candemir Dursun said the ongoing growth can be contributed to the strength of service offerings from UAE-based companies, fulfilling much of Iraq’s requirements over the upcoming years.

“The UAE has established itself as a strong hub for oil and gas in this part of the world, and the level of services being provided by UAE exhibitors is some of the highest we see across the whole event,” she said.

“Opportunities in Basra, and wider Iraq, continue to grow and will do for the foreseeable future. This event is a platform for companies to assess opportunities, and for the local market to understand what kind of technologies are available to them.”

The 30 UAE exhibitors looking to increase their presence in oil-rich Iraq include Gulftainer, National Petroleum Services, NAFFCO, Solar Turbines, Eagle Burgmann, Middle East Tubular Services and Gastech.

Dursun added: “Particularly within the technology and recruitment sectors, the UAE can provide Iraq with a number of high-level solutions as the market continues to open up.”

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre earlier this year confirmed its international petroleum exhibition and conference will become an annual event from 2013.
