Indian state government meets to discuss new Pune venue development

ASIA – The fate of the new Pune International Exhibition Centre will be decided on Thursday 23 August, at the meeting of the Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA).

According to regional commentators, the meeting will focus on problems expected to arise from the development of the new venue with the end result being a final decision on the viability of the project.

The centre is proposed to be developed on 970,000sqm (240 acres) of land in Moshi by a team specifically formed for the project. However, according to the Sakaal Times newspaper, the feasibility of the way in which the project would be implemented was questioned by the elected representatives, who decided the project should be rolled out by the PCNTDA, rather than the team.

The proposal already has tentative approval from the state government, with the PCNTDA due to meet to discuss the first phase of the project.

An initial review meeting on the first phase of the exhibition centre has already taken place, but decisions made there will not be officially accepted at the PCNTDA meeting on 23 August.

Also in India, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTCD) recently announced plans to build an international convention centre in Nashik, 202km from Pune.
