Thai exhibition industry targets Filipino business partners

ASIA – Thailand has opened its doors to Filipino business in a forum aimed at making further connections in the ASEAN region.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has staged its latest road show to unveil Thailand's exhibition platform as a gateway for business opportunities in the ASEAN market, showcasing its credentials this time to the Philippines.

The business forum at Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City on 19 July was hoped to create business-matching opportunities between Thailand’s private sector and the Philippines’ associations, companies and businessmen.

Growing trade volume between the two countries has made the Philippines one of the priority countries for Thailand, with business trade amounting to US$7.34bn in 2011; an increase of 1.12 per cent over 2010.

Filipino visitors accounted for 7.5 per cent of total overseas visitors to Thailand’s exhibitions in 2011. Others in the top five are Malaysia, India, Vietnam, and Singapore.

This year TCEB forecasted total MICE visitors in 2012 would reach 750,000 and generate revenue of over US$1.87bn to the country, more than US$250m of which will come from exhibition industry.
