Dubai trade show to meet growing demands of new UAE green law

MIDDLE EAST - A new exhibition is being staged at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre next March to meet the growing demand in the UAE for a dedicated outdoor built environment showcase.

Outdoor Design Build and Supply (ODBS) takes place on 25-27 March 2013, designed as a regional one-stop-shop for the outdoor built environment industry. It will focus on the design, build and supply for all outdoor space in the UAE and GCC countries – including public parks, municipal works, private and palace gardens, green areas within urban settings, major residential and commercial projects, as well as play, irrigation and landscaping.

The exhibition has been conceived to tap into a new Landscape and Greenery Law to be implemented in the UAE by the end of 2012. The law stipulates all developers must incorporate at least 25 per cent of ‘green space’ or a ‘landscaped area’ within plans for commercial, residential or leisure projects, before planning permission is considered.

Landscaping projects across the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) territory are expected to cost up to US$50bn over the next few years; particularly in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The event is being launched by Dubai-based event organiser Streamline Marketing Group, which is partnered in the UK by independent event organiser Pilot Navigation.

It is backed by the largest buyers of outdoor products and services in the emirates, the UAE municipalities. Helal Saed Al Kaabi, director of parks and recreational services for the Al Ain municipality, the greenest city in the region, said: “This is an important show for us and we are happy to be supporting the exhibition. In Abu Dhabi alone, we have opened five parks already this year and a further 24 are in the pipeline. We will need to meet key suppliers at the show to help us achieve our targets.”

Fiera di Vicenza, which organises the VicenzaOro jewellery fair, recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
