UBM toasts wine show purchase

ASIA - UBM Sinoexpo has bought the Winexpo tradeshow from Shanghai Golden Commercial Exhibition Company.

Winexpo is held in May and November each year in Shanghai, China. Launched in 2005, Winexpo focuses on serving the fast-growing China wine market.

The May 2012 event was held in INTEX Shanghai and attracted almost 100 exhibitors and over 5,300 trade visitors. The autumn 2012 event will take place from 28 to 30 November.

UBM Sinoexpo is the joint venture company between UBM Asia and Shanghai Sinoexpo International Exhibition.

From 2013 Winexpo will be co-located with UBM's existing tradeshow, Hotelex Shanghai, which focuses on hotel supplies and equipment.

The event's founder, Yang Jianzhuang, will remain with the business as a consultant and a joint organiser.

"This acquisition helps us to further serve our customers' needs,” said UBM Asia president and chief executive officer Jime Essink.

“Winexpo exhibitors will also benefit fromexposure to Hotelex Shanghai's visitors, many of whom are substantial wine purchasers from the hospitality and catering sectors. We welcome Mr Yang and the Winexpo team to the UBM family.”
 
UBM claimed that more than 15,000 visitors attended the debut edition of Ecobuild China.
