Indian growth rate outstrips China, BSG claims

ASIA - India’s exhibition market posted an increase of 3.3 per cent according to new findings made on behalf of UFI.

In contrast China, grew by 2.5 per cent, reports The Trade Fair Industry in Asia, produced by Business Strategies Group (BSG) in Hong Kong on behalf of UFI.

Sold exhibition space grew by nearly three percent year-on-year in Asia to 15.9 million sqm in 2011.

This represents a 2.6 per cent growth of total net area sold in 2011 to 15,905,500 sqm. Of that total, almost 55 per cent was sold in China and 12 per cent was sold in Japan.

Among the 1,905 trade fairs included in the database, 855 - or 45 per cent - were held in those two countries. Hong Kong, Korea and India comprise the rest of the top five.

Growth was highest in South East Asia in 2011. Singapore and Malaysia were the fastest growing markets in 2011, up 15 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.

Next year BSG is forecasting growth of 2.5 per cent year-on-year in exhibition space sales. The total capacity in Asia at the end of 2012 is predicted to be almost 6.5 million sqm.
