UBM inaugural Ecobuild China draws 15,000 visitors

ASIA - UBM claims more than 15,000 visitors and 127 exhibitors attended the debut edition of Ecobuild China.

The event took place at the SNIEC exhibition centre, Shanghai, alongside annual building and construction event Expo Build on 9-12 April. It was conceived to give people in the sustainable building industry opportunity to network, gain best practice advice and debate pressing market issues. Expo Build attracted more than 100,000 building professionals.

Ecobuild China’s achievement follows the recent success of Ecobuild in the UK which was attended by more than 57,000 industry professionals.

“Sustainability in the built environment is an issue that has picked up pace over recent years and shows absolutely no sign of slowing its momentum,” said Ecobuild portfolio director James Blue. “Ecobuild in the UK has seen phenomenal growth over recent years. We want Ecobuild China to be the annual meeting place for everyone involved in the creation and maintenance of sustainable built environments throughout China and I’m thrilled that the event has been so well received by such a passionate and diverse community.”

The companion Ecobuild China Conference, focused on the topic of turning low carbon construction into reality, providing debate and discussion on international sustainable construction for 411 delegates.

The conference was developed in partnership with Shanghai Green Building Council and Shanghai Research Institute of Building Science, supported and endorsed by associations including the UK’s Building Research Establishment; Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists; Chartered Institute of Building; Construction Products Association and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and UK Trade and Investment.

Also on display at Ecobuild China was the Bamboo Village Lego Construction which had been built during Ecobuild in the UK and then carefully transported for display at Ecobuild China.

Ecobuild China 2013 will again be a part of Expo Build, taking place on 1–3 April 2013 at SNIEC in Shanghai.

UBM Built Environment is taking its Ecobuild show to a third country next year with the launch of Ecobuild India.
