Quartz leaps into South East Asia with chemical show

ASIA - UK-based Quartz Business Media is launching a South East Asian edition of its specialist trade show Chemspec in Thailand next year.

Chemspec Asia will be held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre from 19 to 21 September 2013 and is expected to attract 5,000 attendees. The event will focus on the fine and speciality chemicals industry and is being developed with The Federation of Thai Industries - Chemical Industry Club.

The organiser attributed its choice of Thailand to the country’s strong reputation as a regional hub among the international fine chemicals community and demand from the Asian chemical industry for a regional event.

The Chemspec exhibition debuted in 1986 in the UK and has since expanded into Europe, India, the US, Middle East and Latin America.

“Our existing events have given us an exciting taste of how Chemspec can deliver vital platforms for interaction between industry professionals across continents and specifically with regard to Asia,” Quartz vice-president Steve Diprose said.

“There is little doubt Asia is currently the world’s economic success story and with manufacturing performance in the region having been robust in the face of the recent global financial crisis, future growth indicators are extremely positive.”

Diprose claimed chemical manufacturers, distributors and consumers in Asia have a reputation for being “quick to identify and embrace opportunities”, and to adopt technological innovations.

The Chemical Industry Club’s chairman Mahabir Koder said the pair will work closely together to develop event content including a conference programme.

“Bangkok is a global business city, and the sizeable scientific and chemical community in the region welcomes the opportunity to highlight the relevance of ChemspecAsia to stakeholders throughout the chemical supply chain,” he added.

Informa Exhibitions acquired the company’s Quartz Publishing and Exhibitions business last October for an undisclosed sum.
